What happened?

2020–2023

unu sells the Scooter Pro: a smart e-moped with a built-in SIM card, app, GPS and live data.

2023

unu goes insolvent. The servers go offline, the SIM cards are shut off. Everything that ran over the mobile network stops working.

Today

The community keeps the scooters going: apps like unustasis control the scooter over Bluetooth. What's missing is everything that needs mobile data: location, live data, access from anywhere.

Now

We have found a way to bring the scooters back online. Whether it happens depends on how many owners join in.

That's not settled yet. What is certain: mobile connectivity costs money every month, so this will be a paid service.

We are a community project. We don't sell scooters and don't cross-subsidize anything. We calculate to cover costs and want to keep the price as low as possible. The more people join, the cheaper it can get for everyone.

rescoot is a community project by unu riders for unu riders, run by Starsong GmbH. We have kept our scooters going since the insolvency and are building the platform they deserved.

Frequently asked questions

Does this work with the original unu firmware? ▾

Yes. Some extra features need the free community firmware Librescoot. The list above shows which ones. Basic connectivity also works with the original software.

I already use unustasis or the new unu app. What does this add? ▾

Bluetooth apps only work within range of your scooter. Reactivated connectivity brings back the features that need the mobile network: location, live data and access from anywhere.

What if not enough people join? ▾

Then we'll let you know and offer you alternative options. Your entry commits you to nothing and costs nothing.

What happens with my email address? ▾

We use it exclusively to contact you about this project. No ads, no sharing with third parties. You can have your data deleted at any time.

I have an unu Scooter Move or an older model. ▾

We're focusing on the unu Scooter Pro first. We may be able to support the Move later; older or other scooters are out of scope for now. If you have a Move, register anyway and pick your model in the form.

Do I have to modify my scooter? ▾

No. The required hardware is already built in. We'll explain exactly how activation works once things kick off.
